Physical Specification
Concept;
Specific Media Type and Drive is not defined in this specification
sheet.
In order to keep data compatibility between media, basic physical
specification is defined.
Media Type;
This document specify a protocol for sequential access media
such as a Tape. A protocol for other media type is reserved.
General File Protocol;
The DVD Cutting Master consists of a maximum six kinds of files
named DDVID.DAT, T5TXT.DAT/T5 Text Stream, VOBTBL.DAT/VOB Location
Table, COPYPROT.DAT copy Protection Information File, CONTROL.DAT
and IMAGE.DAT which shall be located in this order. The file
named DDVID.DAT consist of two kind of data packet named DDVID
and DDVMS. The content for these files and packets is defined
in this specification.
The following figure 1-1 outlines the DDVID.DAT data file protocol
which is recorded on the media in this order, including packet
sequence and its packet name, that is required in this specification.

Note: The
packet of DDVMS for T5 Text file is strongly recommended
*Note:
The VOB Location Table file is mandatory under the following
conditions:
Whenever CSS is to be used on the current layer being described.
When, on the current layer being described, the DVD Image
(IMAGE.DAT file) is stored in 2048 byte sectors and the byte
0 of the CPR-MAI field on the DVD Disc to contain non zero
data.
When, on the current layer being described, the DVD Image
(IMAGE.DAT file) is stored in 2048 byte sectors and the CPPM
System is used requiring the byte 0 of the CPR-MAI field on
the DVD Disc to contain non zero data.
Otherwise the DDVMS packet for the VOB Location Table file
should not be in the DDVID.DAT file.
**Note: The Copy Protection Information file is required only
when the CPPM encoding is to be performed on any layer of the
disc during the physical disc formatting stage. Otherwise it
is not allowed under this specification. If CPPM is to be placed
on one layer, then this file is required for both layers.
The DVD data for one layer or one side is stored on each media.
Therefore, a double-sided or dual-layer application will require
two (2) separate media, each conforming to DVD Cutting Master
Format.
