DVD
Forum's Mission
The
DVD Forum is an international association of hardware manufacturers,
software firms, content providers and other users of Digital Versatile
Discs.
The
Forum's purpose is to exchange and disseminate ideas and information
about the DVD Format and its technical capabilities, improvements
and innovations.
The
Forum works to promote broad acceptance of DVD products on a worldwide
basis, across entertainment, consumer electronics and IT industries.
Membership
is open to any corporation or organization which is engaged in activities
related to DVD research, development and/or manufacturing. We also
welcome new members from software firms or other user of DVD products
with an interest in further developing and improving the DVD Format.
Forum
Members are not required to support the DVD Format to the exclusion
of other formats.
The
DVD Forum commenced as of August 7, 1997, initially for a period
of ten (10) years, which was extended on February 28, 2007 for an
additional ten (10) years, commencing on August 7, 2007.
Today,
our membership includes more
than 100 companies.
The
Steering Committee serves as the
executive body of the Forum.
What
does the Forum do?
Defines DVD Format specifications (see DVD
Format & Logo Licensing)
Publishes reference materials and newsletters for members
Creates DVD Format Books (published by the DVD Format/Logo Licensing
Corporation)
Approves DVD verification programs
Holds worldwide DVD Conferences and promotes information about DVD,
including the DVD Forum web site.
